Mind and Drive
The General Council of the United Russia Party took place on June 16, 2012. The leader of the United Russia Party, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, Russian Presidential Envoy to the Northwestern Federal District Nikolay Vinnichenko, and Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko were present among others.
Dmitry Medvedev spoke on the advantages of video conferencing and the specifics of party work:
“The meeting is video conferenced – that’s good, we should not waste money. (We have 83 regional branches online; let’s discuss the third item on the agenda – on reporting and elections in the regional branches of the party. The Party Presidium made a decision to have the report-and-election campaign in June-September of 2012; it’s a large job and it will be done according to the new Charter. Now the party agencies and leaders will be elected for five years. This is the first time that an overhaul of the party is done on such a grand scale. It is a sort of a test of the party readiness to adapt to changes in the country and in social life. It’s a very large job – there are over 82 thousand of just grassroots organizations in the party.) The important thing is for everything to take place in the open, to be well organized and interesting. Everyone should get a drive from doing party work. Then we will get some results.”
